Loneliness
Nobody in the UK should have to put up with being lonely. However, people ARE lonely and there is nothing wrong with them for being so. There are various services to assist you or loved ones if loneliness has become a real or potential problem. They are spread throughout these A-Z listings and some examples follows. For older people, Silverline offers free telephone support. For younger people there is Childline. For those that are neither young or old, or have lost loved ones, there are several charities listed, including Relate and the Samaritans. For all who may be looking to rebuild their lives by getting active, boosting their sense of self worth and meeting new people, see also the section on volunteering.

Mail Preference Service - This is the mechanism to reduce junk mail
From the MPS web site: The Mailing Preference Service (MPS) is a free service set up 20 years ago and funded by the direct mail industry to enable consumers to have their names and home addresses in the UK removed from lists used by the industry. It is actively supported by the Royal Mail and all directly involved trade associations and fully supported by The Information Commissioners Office.
Signing up to the MPS will radically reduce the amount of marketing mail you get through your letter box, which can be particularly useful for frequent travelers who do not like such mail piling up, and for the environment. Like signing up with the Telephone Preference Service, it will not eliminate everything however. If you sat down and worked it out, you will be surprised at how many organisations you have unwittingly 'subscribed to' often by inadvertently leaving a 'tick box' either default ticked or (cunningly) unticked, when completing an online purchase. In addition there are always rogue and overseas operators. As always, beware the rogues, and if anyone mails or phones asking for a fee in relation to you signing up to the MPS, they are committing a fraud and should be reported accordingly.
